Bridging the “Performance Gap” of new buildings – At last!
The government has announced that a new scheme is set to address the growing gap between the actual performance of a new building versus it’s design performance.
The Government fund addresses a longstanding and increasing issue of many construction companies’ failure to deliver on the high energy efficiency design standards they are required to build to. This ” performance Gap” involves an host of issues such as poorly performing materials, shoddy construction methods and poor onsite practices.
The programme will be run by the government and industry’s joint organisation The Zero Carbon Hub and will involve a series of tests on new buildings over the next seven years.
The Building Regulations Minister, Don Foster was adamant that he was not going to add to the financial burden on home buyers by unleashing more industry regulations. He stated “Instead I want to work with industry to improve standards and performance in practice”.
