Builders Federation warns of further job losses
A trade survey completed by the Federation of Master Builders revealed a further axing in construction employment by up to a third of building companies if the current low levels of construction continues.
The State of Trade Survey, a regular snap shot of the state of the construction industry, showed a significant lack of optimism within small and medium size building firms.
It found that construction workloads declined in the last two quarters of 2012 with a third of firms reporting a decreasing workload in Quarter 4. Even though this showed a slight slowing in decline when compared to Quarter 3 (35% decrease in Q3 to 31% decrease in Q4) as an overall result, job losses in the first half of 2013 are expected by over 30% of those surveyed..
