Developer Masterclass – What now for zero carbon development?
James Blackburn, director of Carbon Green Consulting, is guest speaker for Peter Brett Associates at the Developer Masterclass event at Foot Anstey’s Exeter offices.
James set out significant recent changes in respect of the green construction agenda and what the future may hold. He presented what he called a “plethora of changes to building standards and numerous government announcements about zero carbon development over the past few months”. James described a “constantly evolving planning and development framework in which we all find it tricky to navigate through the changes and the implications for our work.”
Whilst increasing deregulation provides scope and opportunity, it also leaves uncertainty for developers and building companies in respect of their strategic positioning and attitude to risk in a ‘wild west’ environment. James outlined his ‘Green Vision Strategy’ – a consultancy process enabling businesses to steer a clear course through the conflicting regulatory messages to optimise the financial viability of projects whilst achieving sustainability requirements.
The consequence to our clients arising from a lack of clarity can be considerable time, money caused by delay and associated costs trying to meet these needs whilst maintaining viability. They require a clear, authoritative pathway based on credible, sustainability consultancy derived from wide UK experience of achieving major scale consents and successful project delivery.
